Kaizer Chiefs have pondered the future of some key operators and now they’ve made a definitive call to sell one of them., Sibongiseni Mthethwa isn’t in Nabi’s plans. ‘The Ox’ arrived at Naturena to much fanfare at the start of the 2023-2024 campaign but things haven’t worked out according to plan. He was close to a loan move away in the winter window with Chippa, AmaZulu, Richards Bay and former club Stellies all interested.
“There are players who the coach has recommended that should be loaned out and those who he thinks even next season won’t be really needed and Ox is one of those players who he feels could be released,” said their source. “Now it’s all up to management to make the big decision of letting him go. But with two years to go on his contract, the best they can do is to sell him. So, between now and January the team has to find a buyer or at least a loan deal that would end up being permanent. That’s what the team is working on now,” the source added.
“So, if they can’t sell him outright in January they will look at those loan possibilities and look at selling at the end of the season or just don’t renew his contract when it comes to an end. So, that is the situation with Ox at Chiefs as things stand,” said the second source.This statement seems at odds with a recent briefing from Nabi stating that Mthethwa was still an important part of the setup and was even in contention to start against Sundowns.
. The Ox has the ingredients to boss games from the base of midfield but he needs to show it and form cohesive partnerships in a 4-2-3-1 under Nabi. It seems the Tunisian tactician doesn’t trust him to do that.Royal AM’s four matches have produced a TOTAL of two goals. Coach John Maduka won’t see it that way though, he’ll likely be delighted at the frequency of clean sheets that goalkeeper Zakahle Xolani Ngcobo is collecting.
