“There are processes that will see people getting into real trouble,' Kaizer Chiefs' Corporate Communications Manager, Vina Maphosa to fans.
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed they will implement several strict measures to deal with club violence at their matches. The troubled club has been plagued by three violence cases this season alone. The club is set to appear before the DStv Premier League’s Disciplinary Committee on 31 October 2023 to answer for a third charge of crowd violence.
No doubt the club’s poor form has resulted in crowd violence, which has often thrust the club into top trends. These acts of violence have forced Kaizer Chiefs to engage fans in zero-tolerance clinics and crackdown on rowdy fans.Against the summons, Kaizer Chiefs’ Corporate Communications Manager, Vina Maphosa, has confirmed that the club is implementing a string of zero-tolerance policies on violence.
He revealed that fans found guilty will face the full wrath of the law. Maphosa revealed that the club continues educating supporters to promote a culture of respect and fair play. Some workshops have been reported to be running already. However, the club seemingly revealed that it will work with the South African Police Service to nip the scourge in the bud.
Kaizer Chiefs Communication Manager Maphosa told FarPost: “There are processes that will see people getting into real trouble . There was a year we faced fan violence at Moses Mabhida Stadium, and people were arrested, charged and prosecuted, and there was a little bit of improvement in terms of behaviour in the stands.”
Maphosa also warned those fuelling these acts of violence to desist from such actions since there would be serious repercussions. He said, “contemplating to cause trouble” that “there will be serious repercussions.”
