reports that youngster Mduduzi Shabalala admits pressure on Amakhosi’s starlets can be overwhelming. As the club approaches a 10th year without silverware, local scrutiny mounts. Another trophyless season in 2023-24 will only serve to stoke the fires of fan frustration. 20-year-old Shabalala admits the negativity is a source of pain. Personally, ‘Mdu’ has struggled with output this season.
“As young players at Chiefs, I feel sorry for us because it is not easy; it’s tough,” said Shabalala at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena on Thursday.Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi recently signed a long-term contract extension at Chiefs which will keep him at the club until 2028. Shabalala and Vilakazi have shared history at the club, lifting the Diski Trophy together for the Amakhosi youth side.
“I started playing with Mfundo at kasi ; we were playing in the Siphiwe Tshabalala Foundation Tournament; that’s where I saw Mfundo play; we met there and connected, and our relationship started there,” said Shabalala. “I always talk to him and tell him that ‘it may not be now, but one day, it is going to happen, just keep on growing, keep on grinding because he is a good player’.
“We know that we are good players; it is just that we are not fortunate enough, and things are not going our way, but one day, people will be talking a different story about us.”Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Yusuf Maart were spotted in training pictures ahead of Amakhosi’s weekend clash with SuperSport. They’re reportedly fit and available to face Matsatsantsa. Siyethemba Sithebe and Sibongiseni Mthethwa sat in the midfield engine room for Chiefs in their defeat to Richards Bay.
