Kaizer Chiefs' 2024 campaign has been a mix of promising performances and frustrating inconsistencies. While young players have shone and the team has shown offensive firepower, defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of goalkeeping stability remain concerns.

Kaizer Chiefs ’ start to 2024 has been a mixed bag, with both successes and failures under coach Molefi Ntseki . Chiefs ended the year on a high note, with a 1-0 victory over Chippa United at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The win, which included their first clean sheet of the season, propelled Chiefs into the top eight of the Betway Premiership standings. Ntseki has placed faith in young talent , and Mduduzi Shabalala has emerged as a standout performer.

With four goals and two assists, his tally matches the total goals he scored across the last two seasons combined. Another rising star, Wandile Duba, has also impressed, contributing two goals—an improvement on his single goal from last season. Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s return to form has been a bright spot for Chiefs. After struggling for game time early in the season, Mthethwa seized his opportunity in November against Richards Bay. In the five matches since his return, Chiefs have lost just once, securing two wins and two draws. Chiefs have shown progress offensively, scoring 14 goals in their first 10 matches. This makes them the third-highest scorers in the top eight, behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Comparatively, they had only netted 11 goals at this point last season. However, defensive issues remain glaring, with 13 goals conceded—the worst record in the top eight. Despite bolstering their defense with signings like Miguel Inacio, Rushwin Dortley, and Bradley Cross, their defensive stats have not improved. The goalkeeping position remains unsettled at Naturena. Fiacre Ntwari, signed in pre-season, started as the number one but suffered an injury during international duty. Brandon Petersen struggled to claim the top spot, and Bruce Bvuma has taken over in the last two matches. Ntwari’s early performances raised concerns, leaving Ntseki with no clear choice for a consistent goalkeeper. Chiefs’ new additions have yet to make a significant impact
