Kaizer Chiefs’ chances of signing a highly-rated Stellenbosch defender are seemingly over, with the Winelands side understood to have promoted the player to the first team, the Siya crew can reveal.

Liam De Kock, who has been on Chiefs’ radar after his outstanding performances in the Diski Challenge last season, has penned a permanent deal with Stellies first team along with Lance Weaver, Oswin Andries, and Devin Titus.De Kock’s promotion to Steve Barker’s side was imminent after the departure of Zitha Kwinika, Sibusiso Mthethwa, and Robin Johannes ahead of the new season.

“Liam is a tremendous footballer, he must just keep going, he must keep working hard and the doors will open for him,” Vellios told the media after Stellies lost 2-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the Diski Shield final in Hammarsdale, KZN at the weekend. Vellios said the youngsters will be gradually introduced to the first team to ensure they settle in well and not buckle under pressure. De Kock will reunite with fellow Stellies youth graduate Athenkosi Mcaba who impressed in his first team in South Africa’s topflight and even earned a call up to Bafana Bafana and made his debut under Hugo Broos.
