Kaizer Chiefs coaches’ might be under pressure but elsewhere, all is looking good for Amakhosi former mentor Mabedi.
Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mabedi has been hired asMabedi, the former Chiefs skipper, has earned a two-year contract, according to Football Association of Malawi .Mabedi got the job after impressing FAM while serving the Flames in a caretaker capacity.
Mabedi’s additional targets includes “Achieving at least a semi-final placement in the COSAFA tournament…” The Malawi FA appointed the former Flames defender following its technical sub-committee’s recommendations.“The committee has full confidence in Mr Mabedi’s abilities to steer this ambitious project toward success,” the statement adds. “Mabedi’s appointment is contingent upon reaching an agreement on the specified targets and personal terms.
Mabedi won three games—all at the 2023 Cosafa Cup—and drew five. The Flames drew 0-0 with Ethiopia, Mozambique , Guinea , Lesotho and South Africa . Malawi beat Comoros 2-0, Zambia 1-0 and Seychelles 2-0—all the games at the 2023 Cosafa Cup held in Durban, South Africa, in July.Mabedi started off his coaching career in an interim role at Swallows. He then moved to work as Mpumalanga Black Aces assistant to Muhsin Ertugral in 2015.
