There have been concerns about the future of one of the Kaizer Chiefs defenders due to his injury troubles, the Siya crew has learnt.
As reported in edition 1258 of Soccer Laduma, the Soweto giants are believed to concerned about defender Sifiso Hlanti’s injury situation and whether the player will be able to contribute to the team as age no longer on his side.Hlanti is one of the best left backs in Mzansi and while the Durban-born player’s talent cannot be questioned, his injury history is somewhat of a concern after being unfortunate with long-term injuries in recent seasons.
Going into the break, the Bafana Bafana international had been ruled out of action and expected to miss the remainder of the 2021/22 season due to the Achilles tendon injury he suffered at training in November last year. The 31-year-old underwent surgery as the doctors want to get him back on the field to do what he does best.
With only seven starts to his name, as a high-profile player, a lot was expected from Hlanti following his arrival at Naturena, but injury has hampered his progress. Hlanti’s contract with Chiefs runs until June 2023, however, concerns have been raised about the club’s return on investment in the player, according to sources in the know.
