The Pretoria-based DJ and music producer’s collaboration with DJ Maphorisa as Scorpion Kings bagged them Album of the Year, Duo or Group of the Year and Best Amapiano Album for Once Upon A Time In Lockdown. His solo album I Am The King of Amapiano: Sweet and Dust earned him the Male Artist of the Year gong.Sama organisers Recording Industry of SA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “A big congratulations to the Sama27 winners. DJ Maphorisa grabbed three awards at the star-studded music affair, hosted by actor Lawrence Maleka and choreographer-turned-actress Bontle Modiselle Moloi.Keeping to his winning ways was the internationally-acclaimed Master KG, who took home the Southern African Music Rights Organisation Composer Highest Airplay award that he shared with Nomcebo Zikode. The pair also grabbed the International Achiever Award for the global hit Jerusalema.
Blaq Diamond made history as the first outfit to be crowned Artist of the Year. The Durban duo attracted the biggest number of public votes. Gospel star Bucy Radebe, who bedazzled in a black sleeveless gown, bagged two awards – the White Star Newcomer of the Year and Best Traditional Faith Album for Spiritual Encounter.Sho Madjozi proved her versatility when she scooped the Best Traditional Album and the Sofnfree Female Artist of the Year award.
