Trudeau’s lawyers argue that Millar’s filing doesn’t prove the prime minister has material evidence to provide, saying the submitted documents referred to statements the prime minister made but provided no sworn affidavits to back up the claims. A subpoena can also be quashed if it’s issued for an improper purpose including an attempt to abuse the process of the court, Trudeau’s lawyers say, notingfor the People’s Party of Canada at the time of the incident.
Millar said he’s looking forward to arguing the case at a virtual hearing next week and is confident the subpoena will be upheld.
