Jamil was attacked on Sept. 29 when he went outside the store to bring in some boxes at around 7:40 a.m. She said a man that they had been giving coffee and food for about a year jumped Kamil from behind, hurling racist insults. In October, Silva said that after the attack she wanted to leave, but the support from the community kept her going. Hannah Kersey, who has lived close by the store for seven years, set upKamil Safatli after he was attacked in front of his store on Sept. 29. - GoFundMe“Amazing support and amazing community, but it’s not enough because they can’t be beside me all the time,” she said.

“It’s heartbreaking that we couldn’t get the help that was needed to make them feel safe in their own neighbourhood and I wish things were different. I’m going to miss my visits down to Jake’s as I know many others can say the same. It’s a sad day for Dartmouth.”
