'Oh, that's very sweet of her,' Bowen said in response, with Lauryn pointing out that she was 'like a mother' to Hyland. The host then asked, 'Do you look at her, like, maternally?' which prompted the actress to answer, 'Oh, of course.' At the time, she had accused the actor of both physical and verbal abuse, including an argument in May 2014 where he 'choked' her until she 'could not breathe or speak,' per documents obtained by Us Weekly.
The star added that she looks at all her on-screen, Modern Family children as her 'kids.' Ariel Winters and Nolan Gould played her children in the series, with Rico Rodriguez taking on the role of her younger stepbrother That same year, Sarah opened up about her close relationship with her Modern Family co-stars during an interview with People.
Later that same night, a report of a disturbance in the same area came in and law enforcement discovered both the actor and his girlfriend. Sarah and Matt began dating in 2010 after co-starring in the Disney channel movie titled, Geek Charming.
