Jujutsu Kaisen abandons a major rule.
Warning: Contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen episode #32.Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has finally gotten to the Shibuya Incident arc, and with it, it just broke one of the creator’s biggest rules for the anime. Anyone who read the Jujutsu Kaisen manga would come into the anime to find that all instances of narration were either reworked into monologues or taken out of the story entirely, and that came about as a request from series creator Gege Akutami.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Jujutsu Kaisen anime got a lot out of removing narration, but it appears to have finally done away with that rule. Episode #32 adapted Yuji’s fight with the grasshopper curse, and the anime retained the manga’s original narration, suggesting that narration will be a reoccurring element in the anime, going forward.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Narration Continues Season 2’s Big Changes For The Anime As odd as it might be for Jujutsu Kaisen to break its rule about narration, it does serve as another sign of how different season 2 is supposed to be. Well before season 2 premiered, it was clear that there would be major changes due to its having a new director and character designer, and that’s shown itself with episodes that are completely different from season 1 in terms of animation and overall composition.
That, of course, also means that season 2’s inclusion of narration can be seen as another sign of its high quality. Narration was likely excluded from season 1 because Gege Akutami didn’t think it would work that well in animation, so with its inclusion in season 2, that must mean the new team behind it is confident enough in their ability to make it work.
