Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Arc changes everything.

Warning! The following contains major spoilers for Jujutus Kaisen's Shibuya Incident arc!!!Manga readers have been hyping up Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Incident arc from the moment it was originally published. While anime only fans may view this as over exaggeration, the excitemtent is warranted, given that the arc was so good, it changed both the original series and shonen forever.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Before Shibuya, Jujutsu Kaisen had featured some dark moments, especially in the Vs. Mahito arc from season 1. In this arc, the disturbing curse Mahito takes the troubled teen Junpei under his wing, and then brutally transfigures him as Yuji watches helplessly. This was a gut-wrenching moment, both due to its cruel nature, and how shocking it was.

The Shibuya Incident Made Jujutsu Kaisen Much Darker Up until the Shibuya Incident, no matter how threatening things seemed, Gojo would always swoop in and save everyone when the moment called for it. However, at the very beginning of the Shibuya Incident arc, Gojo is sealed away, leaving all the other sorcerers to deal with the Disaster Curses alone. This pushes them beyond their limits, with many characters like Fushiguro revealing new, even more powerful techniques.

This arc completely changed the series' status quo in a necessary but incredibly dark way. With Gojo gone, the higher ups of Jujutsu Society were able to go after those he was protecting, like Principal Yaga and Yuji. In addition, Kenjaku was able to freely execute his Culling Game plan, which completely changed the format of the series. However, the biggest impact the infamous arc made was the darker tone it gave the series.

Without the Shibuya Incident, the darker nature of Jujutsu Kaisen would make it far more polarizing. In fact, the horror of the Shibuya Incident pushed the boundaries often seen in the shonen demographic. In many ways, the exact extent of this impact hasn't even been realized yet, likely only manifesting in the years to come. However, its effects on the rest of Jujutsu Kaisen's plot and tone are certainly clear, as it completely changed the course of the manga.
