For the third year running, Marvel held a fan vote to determine which character would be added to the X-Men this year: Juggernaut, Prodigy, Dazzler, Frenzy, Jubilee, or Cannonball. Marvel surprised voters by adding all six characters to the roster, only revealing in the aftermath of the Gala's destruction that their votes had determined the sole survivor: Juggernaut. This Year's New X-Men Team Was Incredibly Powerful It was Nimrod and Orchis that attacked the Hellfire Gala, in a devastating attack being referred to as the latest "Mutant Massacre." Jubilee, Frenzy, Prodigy, Dazzler, and Cannonball all seemingly perished in the attack, with only voter's choice Juggernaut surviving out of the six.

There have been critics of the X-Men lack of diversity in recent years, with many understandably upset when the most diverse Krakoan X-Men team yet were murdered one page after their debut. Though their murder might've been the shocking twist the Hellfire Gala needed, it seems like a missed opportunity not to see them united in battle at least once. This year's Hellfire Gala was the beginning of the end for the Krakoan era, with many iconic X-Men being brutally murdered.
