Prosecutors have twice failed to have Nettleton designated a dangerous offender. Since 2001, he had been convicted of more than 46 criminal offences, including five convenience store robberies. During the 2018 robbery of a Subway sandwich shop for which he was sentenced Friday, Nettleton put a note on the counter that read, “Be calm, be patient, don’t panic. Give me all your money, otherwise I’ll shoot you.” There was no evidence that he used actual violence during the incident.
