Police stand guard at the cordoned off area surrounding the tram where a gunman opened fire in Utrecht, Netherlands, on March 18, 2019.An investigating judge on Friday extended by two weeks the detention of a man suspected of killing three passengers on a tram in the central Dutch city of Utrecht and seriously wounding three more, in what is being investigated as a likely terror attack.
In a statement, the court said that the judge ruled that “the suspicion is strong enough to detain the man for longer.”No further details were released of the behind-closed-doors hearing. They say the nature of the shooting and a note found in a getaway car led to strong suspicions of an extremist motive.
