Russia has said it will withdraw its forces from parts of Ukraine, which has raised optimism of an end to the war

The JSE may have another decisive session on Wednesday after Russia said it would withdraw its forces in parts of besieged Ukraine after another round of peace talks, fuelling optimism of an end to the war.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 1.31% but export-sensitive Japan’s Nikkei 225 gave up 1.40% while Australia’s ASX 200 was up 0.60%. Palladium was up 2.79% to $2,215.50/oz, halting a three-day slide, during which the commodity lost as much as 15%. The precipitous drop in metal prices has affected JSE-listed commodity shares, with Sasol losing 6% on Tuesday.
