Joshlin Smith update: State withdraws charges against 1 of 4 accused

Eight months after Joshlin Smith went missing from her home in Diazville, Lourentia Lombaard, along with the three other accused, appeared at the Vredenburg Magistrates court on Monday morning, reports Cape {town} Etc.

to being involved in the six-year-old’s disappearance, was informed that the charges against her were being withdrawn.

She was charged with kidnapping and human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation alongside Joshlin’s mother, Racquel Chantel Smith, Racquel’s boyfriend Jacquin Rowhan Appollis, and their friend Steveno van Rhyn. While no further details were provided regarding why Lombaard’s charges were dropped, the National Prosecuting Authority confirmed toHer release follows that of Phumza Sigaqa, who was arrested during the investigation but released a week later‘tell the truth’The case has now been transferred to the Western Cape High Court in terms of section 75 of the Criminal Procedure Act, where a pretrial hearing will take place on 31 January 2025.
