Other inductees include swim queens Patricia Chan and Joscelin Yeo, Asian Games champion Ang Peng Siong.

SINGAPORE – It was a night of nostalgia and celebration for the local aquatics fraternity on May 10, when Singapore Aquatics held its 85th anniversary gala fundraising dinner at the Raffles City Convention Centre.

Also making the list are the men’s water polo team who won gold at the 1954 Asian Games, and water polo stalwarts Kenneth Kee, who was named Coach of the Year in 1982, and the late Tan Eng Liang, who was Singapore Sports Council chairman from 1975 to 1991 and vice-president of the Singapore National Olympic Council from 1992 to 2020.

The selection panel comprised members from its executive committee, former national swimmers, officials from Sport Singapore and the SNOC, and the press. Legacy council chair Patricia Chan, who is also one of the pioneer Hall of Famers, said: “The inductees laid the foundations... They showed us how determination and dedication lead to excellence.

Singapore Aquatics is the first national sports association to do so and the 28-year-old hopes others will follow suit, saying: “Whatever criteria they set, the most important thing is recognising your athletes, both past and present.”
