The new production, which played London’s West End, is slated to start a two-month run in December at the Princess of Wales Theatre
Sources close to the production confirmed the Toronto engagement of the musical comedy will begin in December and run for eight to 10 weeks.
“Joseph” in Toronto is expected to feature cast members from the U.K. tour, including Jac Yarrow, who played the titular role in 2019 and was nominated for an Olivier Award.and went on to star in the 1999 film, was reportedly tapped to play the Pharaoh for the 2022 Toronto production but turned it down.
There was also talk of finding star Canadian actors to play the Pharaoh and the other supporting role of the Narrator, but that idea was shelved by producers, largely because it would have necessitated an additional rehearsal process before the Toronto run, one source told the Star. “Joseph” was originally planned to be part of the 2022/23 Mirvish subscription season, which was announced in June, but the Mirvish team reportedly was hesitant to commit at the time due to possible logistical challenges associated with the large production.
“They’re much more confident that things will all go well now with the production,” the insider said, adding the show will be an add-on to the subscription season.
