The Washington Examiner's Christy Matino caught up with Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IO) about her proposed legislation on women's sports.

Ernst appeared at Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference's the second day, under the them titled"Road to Majority." Ernst defended her stance to keep biological males out of women's sports in an interview."In the case of Riley Gaines, she's a 12-time NCAA athlete. I mean, she is a winner and yet she was forced to compete against a biological male in a swimming competition," Ernst told Matino.

"So it is so important that I have led and introduced an act that will prohibit biological males from competing in those sports against women because these biological males, they're bumping women off of the podium, they're taking away scholarships, they're running away with the titles that should be going to girls and women." Gaines testified to Congress earlier this week after tying with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.

This past week was Women's Sports Week and the 51st anniversary of Title IX, the federal policy that ensured equal athletic opportunities between male and female athletes.
