Biting satire meets a heart of gold.
Extra features: Inside Jojo Rabbit
Details are clearly and consistently up from the HD Blu-ray image, lending the 4K picture an extra sense of immediacy that’s really effective at engaging you more deeply with the film’s touching relationships and enhancing the absurdist humor. The more realistic and lifelike the madness looks, the more deliberately awkward it becomes.
It’s no surprise with all this in mind to find the disc ticking over at a fairly consistent 60-70Mbps for much of its running time. It starts out OK, but fairly quickly it unexpectedly turns into a series of phone calls with various cast members. This feels like quite a novel idea at first, but many of the calls feel awkward and kind of pointless. Plus, of course, none of the people on the phone can see the film, so the vast majority of the commentary bears no relation to anything that’s happening onscreen. Even more strangely, there are long - really long - periods without any commentary between the phone calls.
