The acclaimed comedian will kick off the resurrected Just for Laughs Toronto festival — returning after a two-year hiatus — with a much anticipated bill-topping set at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday.
Mulaney obviously has a lot to talk about, which he’s been doing on his From Scratch tour, the hallmark of any good hour of standup. Issa Rae is still on tap for ComedyCon, Just for Laughs’ answer to Fan Expo, only with less elaborate cosplay. The “Insecure” star will be joined by personalities ranging from former “Late Late Show” host Craig Ferguson to live podcast episodes with the “grizzled gay ghouls” from “The Bald and the Beautiful” , “Obsessed With Sophie Buddle,” Cipha Sounds and Wil Sylvince’s “Talk Clearlyer,” all over three days at multiple venues such as Meridian Hall.
It will be Christmas in, uh, late September as the Royal Cinema on College Street presents a special sneak peek of movie-to-come “Christmas With the Campbells.” A last-minute addition to ComedyCon, there will be a Q&A with co-writers Vince Vaughn and Barbara Kymlicka along with Peter Billingsley. If the name doesn’t ring a sleigh bell, that is none other than Ralphie from “A Christmas Story,” instantly making this the must-attend event of Just for Laughs Toronto.
