John Leguizamo fans enamored with his recent sightings in San Antonio can mark their calendars for the debut of “Leguizamo Does America.”
in San Antonio can mark their calendars for the debut of “Leguizamo Does America,” a new MSNBC series that will highlight the influences of Latinos in the United States.Leguizamo was in the Alamo City last month,, “American Historia,” which will air later this year on PBS. The Colombia native appeared with a SXSW panel Tuesday in Austin to discuss his MSNBC series, a six-part documentary spotlighting “Latin exceptionalism” and cities such as New York, Miami and Los Angeles.
“It’s about our talent, our capability, our strengths, and it’s more about the joy of being Latin,” LeguizamoOn ExpressNews.com:“Leguizamo Does America” also will feature San Antonio native and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who struggled early in his career, realizing “there aren’t many other Latins in the business.”
Although the MSNBC series will not feature San Antonio, the actor recognizes “a lot of the great history and a lot of our great activists, especially Latina activists, were all here in Texas, in San Antonio.”Known for his roles as Sid in “Ice Age,” “To Wong Foo,” “Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” and recently, “The Menu,” Leguizamo was spotted at several San Antonio locations last month while in town filming the PBS series American Historia.
Sightings of the actor were reported at Hotel Emma and near the River Walk, as well as Thai Chili restaurant on the North Side. The San Antonio Film Commission said the series used a local film crew.
