Even before the explosive revelations of the past two weeks, CSIS was very public that foreign state interference in our elections has been increasing. The panel of civil servants who had to make the call on going public with a warning to voters was aware of CSIS’s concerns that China was encouraging individuals to act as proxies on its behalf. The spy agency warned publicly that China might use threats against the Chinese community in Canada.
What we don’t know is the extent of the Liberal Party of Canada’s collusion with that intervention, if there was any at all. One security source suggested to me that the Liberals were “co-conspirators” in this affair and that is where any further investigation must look.Article content But that is not going to cut it. Did the Liberal party also turn a blind eye as the Chinese Communist Party and its proxies tried to manipulate Canada’s elections?
