Léger poll for National Post shows few have faith in David Johnston\u0027s report on foreign interference, or Trudeau to fix the problem.
None of those findings inspires hope that confidence in the electoral process is likely to be revived. Why Trudeau and Poilievre are both delighted with Johnston's report — for different reasons
The poll makes clear that Canadians are concerned about the Chinese government influencing or impacting political activities here, and only one in four respondents believes the government will use Johnston’s recommendations to put concrete measures in place to combat foreign interference at the next election.
So, here we have a case where, on the one hand, CSIS operatives briefed O’Toole that he and his party were targeted, while, on the other, the special rapporteur said the spy agency’s intelligence offered no evidence of a co-ordinated campaign. It is hard to reconcile those two accounts, and voters can’t be blamed for throwing up their hands and wishing chronic anxiety about the weather on all parties.
