For both men, the policies are calibrated to appeal to traditional Conservative voters, without making potential Liberal to Conservative switchers recoil. It’s credible and even truthful but it does not stoke the unruly passions of partisans who see themselves as losers in the culture wars. She made thoughtful interventions on such subjects as the impact of net zero pledges on farmers and the “slippery slope” of removing safeguards that limit access to medically assisted dying.
