Yet in spite of the riches brought into the game by this era of unprecedented success, both camps had their budgets cut by Canada Soccer, threatening the key roles played by many of those scurrying around a frigid BMO Field on Monday morning. In other corners, the stadium staff were busy switching in advertising hoardings for CIBC, Nike, Allstate and other sponsors who have jumped on board but whose funding remains at the centre of so many of the issues.

“It’s been a difficult time,” added defender Alistair Johnston. Osorio and Johnston are among many leaders on this team. Both tried to bring the focus back to Honduras and a chance to change the tone and temperature.
