John Daly books tee-time for 2023 Shaw Charity Classic yyc
“Having John Daly commit to playing in Calgary once again takes our tournament to a new level.”
Daly hasn’t won an individual title in several years, but he reminded during the 2022 Shaw Charity Classic that he is still capable of shooting low scores. Matt Freeman, head pro at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, caddies for John Daly during the Shaw Charity Classic at Canyon Meadows in Calgary on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022.After struggling to a 73 in the opening round, so frustrated with his flat-stick that he handed it to a fan en route to the 17tee, he closed with spins of 68 and 67. If not for that lousy first lap and an ice-cold putter, his name might have been near the top of the leaderboard.
Even when ‘Long John’ isn’t in contention for the trophy and the white-hat treatment, he’s always being trailed by a massive crowd. Tuesday’s announcement undoubtedly prompted a surge in ticket sales.Article content “I’ve always said I’ve got the greatest fans in the world, and Calgary is no different. No matter what, through thick and thin, they’ve always stuck by me,” Daly said in a statement. “This tournament always has huge galleries. There is nothing better than getting it going and having the fans get loud and crazy. That’s just the way I like them, so I’m looking forward to getting up to Canada, and hopefully give the fans something to get loud about.
