Khuliso Mudau has pulled a few surprises as he managed to establish himself as one of the leading right backs in Mzansi for club and country, but his former coach Joel Masutha says he is not surprised by the player’s meteoric rise. SLSiya Read more:
Mudau’s bright performances for Sundowns this campaign has catapulted him into coach Hugo Broos’ national team setup, where he hardly put a foot wrong in his debut against Guinea last Friday.
But the man who worked with the Musina-born star at Black Leopards in the 2018/19 season says Mudau’s rise to the top has not taken him by surprise, as the 26-year-old displayed promise early in his career. “I’m not even surprised to see him being rated so highly. I worked with the boy, he is an intelligent player and someone that never complains at all. Even with injuries he would never want to sit out. That tells you that this boy has got the heart of a lion,” the Lidoda Duvha coach informed the Siya crew.
“Even with us at Leopards, he was a multi-functional player, and played wherever we had problems. Sometimes he played as a winger, sometimes as defensive midfielder and as a right back. Even at the time when our left back was not available he played there, and he always delivered. So, it is very difficult to know which position you can play him in, but at the same time, he is going to give you comfort by performing in each and every position that you ask him to play.
“I’ve got no doubt given the talent and also the way that he works. Sometimes it needs a big heart, which he is not lacking, and he is one boy that is so humble, even off the field when you meet him you see that you have come across someone who is mature for his age and that will help him to cement his position because I don’t have any doubts that he has all the attributes to make that position his and own it like the late Sizwe Motaung used to own that position,” Masutha concluded.
