Joburg Water is increasing daily water restrictions to help reservoirs recover after recent maintenance work left many taps dry. Level 1 restrictions are currently in place, prohibiting garden watering between 6am and 6pm, and the use of hosepipes for cleaning pavements or washing cars.
JOHANNESBURG - Joburg Water said that it will be scaling up daily water restrictions to allow reservoirs to recover. The restrictions come shortly after water infrastructure maintenance work a few weeks ago, left many taps dry in the metro.At the moment level 1 water restrictions are in place. This means residents are not allowed to water their gardens between 6am and 6pm, and are prohibited from using hosepipes to clean pavements or wash cars.
'To ensure that we conserve water we should not use hosepipes for watering, cleaning our pavements or cars. We need to take shorter showers, use and recycle rainwater as well as grey water.' The entity has been facing water challenges since it's bulk supplier, Rand Water reduced supply due to over consumption. Joburg water says it offered relief to residents from the throttling in mid-December due to the 86-hour maintenance that took place during that period. Joburg Water is currently repairing and rehabilitating reservoirs and says schedules for affected areas will be issued on a daily basis
