Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, and more emotionally paid tribute to the NBA legend this week
in a Los Angeles helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of seven others. “I had many conversations with Kobe off of television, and they always involved his daughters. Always,” an emotional Kimmel said during Monday’s episode of“Once he retired from basketball, his life revolved around their lives. He was very proud of them. He loved being a father.”
Bryant’s legacy is complicated: In 2003, he was accused of raping a 19-year-old hotel employee in Colorado. The prosecutors dropped the charges, however, after the accuser declined to testify. Later, a civil lawsuit brought against Bryant by the woman ended in an undisclosed settlement. “Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did,” Bryant said in areleased at the time.
