We chat with InvadersFromMars star Jimmy Hunt about the sci-fi cult classic's 4K restoration, its long-lasting legacy, his favorite memories from the set, and more:
Nearly 70 years after it first came to theaters, Invaders From Mars is finally getting a glorious 4K Ultra-HD restoration. The sci-fi cult classic revolved around a young boy named David who begins to suspect his town is under attack from beings from outer space after witnessing a flying saucer and his family begins exhibiting odd personalities.
In honor of the film's 4K Ultra-HD restoration, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with star Jimmy Hunt to discuss Invaders From Mars, the movie's long-lasting legacy, his favorite memories from set, and more. But Invaders from Mars is something that I didn't think was going to be around 70 years later, and here it is, and people are enjoying it more now than they did then. I think maybe they understand it a little bit better. All the people that saw it when they were children, they've gotten over the fact that when they go by the sand somewhere, they're not going to get sucked down. [Laughs] It's been a real experience for me for this to happen again.
What had happened was that I missed my mark, and so I was a little bit closer to him than I should have been, so when he swung — and Leif Erickson was a big guy — boom, he hit me, and down I went. It had to be the greatest shot of the whole movie, because I was gonna fake drop on the floor and everything, but no, I went down, and I'm looking up to Menzies and going, "Print, print, that's a good one! That's a good one." Because, yeah, it was realistic.
Jimmy Hunt: It was kind of neat, they brought me in a couple days early, before the shooting started, and that was when I got to meet them, because they didn't want them to frighten me. I don't know why, but they didn't want to frighten me, so I got to meet them, and I got to see them with their suits on. They were good guys.
