Early in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Washington Nationals seemed incapable of wriggling their way into a comfortable spot at the plate. They entered the sixth inning having seen just 50 pitches from Arizona righty Brandon Pfaadt.
“Our pitching has carried us,” Winker said. “We’re facing a really good team, really good pitchers. was pitching outstanding. So, just tried to hit the ball hard.” The Diamondbacks couldn’t touch Corbin or the stable of relievers. The left-hander notched a season-high seven strikeouts against Arizona, allowing just one earned run in the fourth inning.
