Surfside Pier in North Wildwood closed temporarily for an investigation on the beach.
A Jersey Shore amusement pier was briefly evacuated Saturday evening due to a police investigation reportedly related to a person with a gun.
Surfside Pier in North Wildwood, part of the Morey’s Piers and Amusement Parks chain, was shut down temporarily but reopened, according to local police.It was unclear if the man was charged with any crimes. No one was injured, police told the television station.“The issue was resolved, and Surfside Pier was quickly reopened with the full support of the police,” Morey’s Piers said in a statement. “Our guests continued to enjoy the pier the rest of the evening.
Will Morey, the Cape May County commissioner who owns the amusement park franchise, told NJ Advance Media the park was shut down for 45 minutes to an hour as a precaution by police. Officers were investigating an area of the beach nearby.The pier is maybe best known for being home to The Great Nor’Easter Roller Coaster.
