Isle of the Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases that the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff is going to blow fans' minds. The series, which is set to premiere on AMC in 2023, is a spin-off of the long-running zombie apocalypse drama The Walking Dead, which is airing its season 11 part 3 finale, which will also serve as the series finale, later this year. Isle of the Dead will follow Morgan's character Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie.
The show, which will be set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan and run for 6 episodes, is beginning its preliminary casting as it prepares to go into production. Friday Night Lights star Gaius Charles has joined the main cast as Izaak, a complicated character who is attempting to balance protecting his wife and child and processing a traumatic event from his past that continues to haunt him. Other than that new character, however, not many details have been revealed about Isle of the Dead.

With the scripts complete, Isle of the Dead will likely be making more major casting announcements any day now. While additional casting news always tends to drop during production of any series rather than before, the rest of the main cast should be shaping up shortly. After that, it will still be quite a while before any major plot details will be revealed, but given how quickly this show is coming together, they will likely appear at a surprisingly swift pace.
