A Jefferson County deputy was charged after bringing an inmate gym shoes and a cell phone, the sheriff says
A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after authorities say he brought contraband to an inmate at the jail where he worked.He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 12:02 p.m. March 3 and released at 12:31 p.m. after posting $30,000 bond.
Authorities said Reeves brought gym shoes and a cell phone to an inmate who was housed in the county’s Bessemer lockup. “While this is not drugs or a weapon, it is against state law and the phone, in particular, places our personnel at risk,” said Sheriff Mark Pettway. Reeves is on administrative leave from his position with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in accordance with the dismissal process.
