A chill on charity threatens to undo decades of progress on causes ranging from hunger to clean water and everything in between.
Our Ugandan partners had just “turned on the taps,” meaning clean, disease-free water was flowing to their doorsteps for the first time, ever. In a community where unsafe water had forced up to one-in-four children to miss school, things were about to change. The community — after three years of their own ingenuity and commitment — had partnered with our Canadian charity to build a safe water system for 17,000 people.
An Ipsos survey from this year showed one-in-four people planned to give less to charities in 2022, including 17 per cent who specifically cited the effects of inflation. 1) The federal and provincial governments must plan to provide more support to charities, both at home and abroad until inflation is reined in.
