The magazine layoffs and Ryan’s bungling of the town hall drove at least 60 people to join the Guild, with sign ups continuing to roll in. The number of dues paying members has almost doubled since Bezos bought the paper in 2013, the Guild said. Since then, members have pressed for answers about the layoffs—who they will impact, why they’re happening, and when—in bargaining sessions and have gotten no answers, according to the Guild.
