Under-21s boss Lee Carsley said he had been impressed with the centre back but that people must remember that Branthwaite is still young and so will suffer difficult moments. Carsley said his team will be ready to offer support when that happens

Jarrad Branthwaite is thought of so highly the England setup is tracking his progress to ensure he has full support should he suffer a dip in form.

Branthwaite pushed his way into the starting XI in the third game of the Premier League season against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has not relinquished that honour. His work during that loan spell led to Carsley selecting him for the U21s side in the summer. Branthwaite found himself behind Levi Colwill and Taylor Harwood-Bellis during the tournament and found opportunities limited in a team that lifted the trophy without conceding a goal.
