Japan's WagakkiBand discuss their new release, their thoughts on the concept of each track and the direction of the group's future
is Japan's "nouvelle rock entertainment band" that blends elements taken from traditional Japanese culture, such as shigin -- a form of reciting poetry as a performance -- and traditional musical instruments, called wagakki, with Western rock. The eight-member group announced a global deal with Universal Music this summer, as the next step toward bringing its distinctive style of pop-rock music to audiences around the world.in December, their first release under UMJ.
We figured that we would just be repeating what we've always done if we didn't resolve to make something new, in order to reach a wider audience. So we began working on the song to break down the walls around us in a sense. Also, music has always been a source of energy for me, and this song has lyrics that are easy to understand so that it can give energy to those who listen to it.Yuko's voice has power that doesn't take a back seat to the wagakki being featured in our numbers.
Machiya, you wrote "Ignite," the song with "new beginning" as the theme. Could you elaborate on the concept?I think it takes courage to do something new because there are risks involved, but the message is that we'll keep moving forward without being daunted.I was determined to cram all the experience we've accumulated so far into it.
