Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot while giving a speech in Nara on Friday, public broadcaster NHKAbe collapsed and appeared to be bleeding after two gunshots were heard, NHK reported. The former prime minister, who was Japan's longest-serving leader, was taken to Nara Medical University Hospital, per NHK.Abe was campaigning for a candidate ahead of Sunday's elections for the Upper House of Parliament.
Abe, who was most recently in office from December 2012 to September 2020, was Japan's longest-serving prime minister.
