TOKYO : Japan's real wages fell for the 13th straight month in April, government data showed on Tuesday, indicating wage recovery remained slow amid persistent gains in consumer inflation.
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda has stressed the need to keep ultra-loose policy to achieve the central bank's 2 per cent inflation target in a sustainable and stable fashion, accompanied by wage increases. The consumer price index the ministry uses to calculate real wages, which includes fresh food prices but excludes owners' equivalent rent, rose 4.1 per cent in April from a 3.8 per cent increase in March.Total cash earnings, or nominal wages, rose 1.0 per cent year-on-year in April, slightly slower than a revised 1.3 per cent gain in March.
