The Warriors didn’t take advantage of the Wizards’ defense, instead relying on 3-point shots.
The Warriors made only 24 percent of their 33 attempts from 3 and shot 35 percent from the field in the first half. Golden State shot so poorly that the Wizards’ defense played drop coverage on the Warriors and deliberately conceded open shots to various players.
Golden State didn’t do enough of that on Sunday night. In many other instances, the Warriors couldn’t capitalize and make the Wizards pay. Instead of putting pressure on the defense by driving and using what they conceded, the Warriors continued to attempt and miss 3s.The Wizards shot a scorching 57 percent from 3, and Corey Kispert scored a career-high 25 points including six 3s, all because of the Warriors’ soft zone defense and blown assignments in man-to-man coverage.
