Pierre Poilievre is driving youth to the Conservatives, but the movement is bigger than him

Political observers are trying to figure out what’s going on. And I might have some helpful insights to explain.

Millennials and Gen Zers consistently share with me that they face various pressures to conform to liberal orthodoxy. In school and on college and university campuses, students are being made to feel as though there is only one acceptable point of view on identity, patriotism, economics, community, family, faith, business, and the role of government in our lives.

Similar to youth of past generations, today’s youth value freedom. In fact, freedom is the most common word used when I ask young conservatives to define what conservatism means to them.In the 1960s and 1970s, the young rebels calling for freedom successfully championed voting rights and equality under the law. In 2022, young rebels want to end government overreach into our communities, pursue home ownership and embrace true diversity: diversity of thought.
