The first ever Sound Music Awards, designed to celebrate the local music scene, took place last night 🎸🎼🎤
Independent local music company Sound Music Group launched its new project back in February with a preliminary event. The prestigious Sound Music Awards aims to celebrate the Liverpool music scene and the industry's efforts over the last 12 months, culminating last night in an action packed awards ceremony at Hangar 34.
After the launch of the awards, there were more than 2,000 nominations - including for established and emerging acts like Liverpool favourites Red Rum Club, Jamie Webster, RATS, Bronnie and many more.Members of the public were permitted to nominate their favourites from the previous 12 months in each of its 11 award categories, with the winners unveiled last night. The awards ceremony managed to offer a perfect blend of gig atmosphere with the prestige of much larger scale events.
The first of what is hoped will become an annual affair, there was live music by local musicians including Waiting Till Marriage, Paint Me In Colour, Brandon Tew and headliner Zuzu, with the event hosted by Alex Young. Categories included Band of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and more.
Liverpool favourite Jamie Webster bagged two awards, though touring commitments meant he was unable to attend the ceremony in person. Instead, he recorded his thanks via a video message, which played to a delighted local audience. It is hoped Sound Music Awards will continue each year, celebrating the vast array of homegrown talent making waves in the music industry.
