James Wiseman temporarily shutdown after experiencing setback: report
SAN FRANCISCO — James Wiseman’s return to the Warriors has been delayed after the 7-foot center experienced swelling in his right knee, a source confirmed Saturday to the Bay Area News Group. The news, which was first reported by The Athletic, comes as a surprise since Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Friday that Wiseman had been “great.”
“It’s good to see him get action after almost a year and start to build some rhythm and conditioning and I’m really anxious for him to just stay on his path. And it’s so frustrating for such a young guy to have to deal with a long-term injury like this, but we’ll see… how it all plays out,” Kerr said.
The Warriors recalled Wiseman Wednesday after he played three games with the Santa Cruz Warriors in what was believed to be the final step in his rehab from last April’s torn meniscus and subsequent surgery. After Wiseman was listed as out for the Warriors’ loss against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, general manager Bob Myers didn’t rule out a return against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday at Chase Center.
This is the latest setback for Wiseman, who underwent a second arthroscopic knee surgery in December to relieve swelling.
