WATCH LIVE: James Webb space telescope’s next images being released.
Astronomers are releasing images of stellar nurseries, a gas-giant exoplanet, a quintet of galaxies and an expanding cloud of gas around a dying star as the most powerful telescope yet continues to show off its prowess at probing the depths of the universe.
A hundred times more powerful than its predecessor, the iconic Hubble telescope, the JWST scans the celestial skies in infrared, not only allowing it to see objects in the furthest reaches of the universe — light from stars that has been travelling toward us for billions of years — but also allowing it to penetrate the veil of cosmic dust that often obscures visible light.
And that’s just the beginning of what’s possible for researchers, said NASA administrator Bill Nelson.
