The New Zealand international limped out of the weekend win over Ross County with a hamstring issue.
Scans have confirmed there is damage and it will keep the left-back sidelined for four to six weeks.
He will miss some big games, starting with tonight’s Viaplay Cup quarter-final with Ross County and the weekend trip to Rangers. McGarry will also miss the home Europa Conference League group games with HJK and PAOK. It is a blow to the player and Barry Robson. The manager had worked hard to get him up to full fitness. He was also careful not to over expose him and left him out of the Europa Conference League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Robson told BBC Scotland: "It will be four to six weeks which is quite frustrating, by the time we got him in the building, we actually took him away at the start and gave him a week's pre-season. That probably wasn't enough, we tried to go slow with him after that and it's still happened. Really frustrated but it's not always easy to get players up to speed."
