Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed that he is legally blind Jake Gyllenhaal has opened up about being legally blind, explaining that he sees it as ‘advantage’ while acting. The Road House actor was born with a lazy eye that resolved naturally, but has been wearing glasses since he was a child. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 43-year-old has 20/1250 vision and pulled out a pair of ‘I literally can’t see’ glasses, with ‘Coke bottle lenses’.
His character, Rusty Sabich, is also a glasses-wearer, but keeps his specks tucked into a shirt during some scenes. Discussing the move, he shared that he actually stole the move from his godfather, Paul Newman, who ‘also wore them hanging from his ear and stuff like that’. Jake most recently starred in Road House Jake has spoken publicly about his vision issues in the past, admitting that he found himself singled out at school.
